One of the events taking place at Birchdale connected to its 100th anniversary is a noon mass on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Mother Tessa Bielecki, who lived in the rustic retreat when it was a monastery known as Nova Nada (1972-1998), has extended an invitation to friends of Nova Nada to attend the mass.

Several of Nova Nada’s former residents will be attending, including Father Dave Denny and Sharon Doyle.

The event precedes an open house at Birchdale taking place Monday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 28.

The mass is in memory of the first Sundays of the month when open houses were held at the monastery.

Bielecki is hoping others will join them for the mass, to be held in the chapel that the monks built. Visitors are invited to bring their own picnics to enjoy on the property.

The mass is not an official Spiritual Life Institute event, but a gathering of friends to reminiscence.
