The Knights of Columbus is partnering with Juniper House for a “Men’s Respect for Women March” today, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.

Yarmouth High School , Juniper House , Knights of Columbus , Montreal , Parade Street , Frost Park

Grand Knight Bill Carroll says the event ties in with an annual campaign held by the women’s shelter.

The Purple Ribbon Campaign is held locally from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, in memory of 14 young women murdered 20 years ago in Montreal, and also to raise awareness about violence against women.

Organizers for the march are hoping that many men, women and children dress in purple and join the walk.

“That’s the only way we can nip this thing is through public awareness,” said Carroll.

“The abuse situation is rampant in every community,” he added.

The march will begin at the lower parking lot of the old Yarmouth High School on Parade Street and end at Frost Park.

A barbecue will be held after the march with hot dogs and hamburgers sold for $2, and water for $1.  All proceeds and donations will be directed towards Juniper House.

Carroll says he hopes the event will become annual. The Knights of Columbus held marches earlier this year in Antigonish and Pictou in memory of women murdered in Nova Scotia.

This is a good cause but i find it ironic that the knights of columbus is doing a march for womans rights once you consider their views on womens rights
