The Emergency Measures Organization has issued a bulletin recommending that residents in low-lying areas evacuate before Hurricane Earl arrives.

Topics :
Emergency Measures Organization , Overton Road , Melbourne

Harold Richardson, a spokesperson for the Emergency Measures Organization, says residents should move to higher ground and prepare 72-hour emergency kits that would include medications, personal papers and cash.

Some of the low-lying areas include John’s Cove outwards, the Overton Road, Pinkney’s Point and the Melbourne area.

“People should get their cars fueled up, stay away from the shoreline after midnight tonight – do not go around the shoreline at all. They should stay off the roads once the storm starts,” said Richardson.

He says the first winds are expected to hit around 3 a.m. with the eye passing around 9 a.m.

“It will be past us, we expect, by noon tomorrow,” said Richardson.

Residents should stay tuned to their battery-operated, portable radio for information on the storm and location of comfort stations.

Richardson says winds are expected to start out of the southeast and then turn around during the day to come out of the northwest. The storm spins counterclockwise.
