The Chunk of Funk New Year’s levee at the Rodd Grand Hotel is becoming another Yarmouth tradition. The band has been headlining a roster of local bands performing at the hotel now for half a dozen years. With six bands on this year’s play list, ringing in the new year takes on a whole new meaning.

The music has always started at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day, but the jockeying for a seat in the intimate Haley’s Lounge has been beginning earlier every year. After last year, organizers ordered up a change in venue. This year the levee will move from the bar to the convention centre, beginning at 4 p.m Tuesday, Jan. 1

Chunk of Funk will be joined by Rain over Saint Ambrose, The Rockabillys, Lead Mule, The Influence and The Rhetorics.

The hotel is offering a full menu until 10 p.m.

Organizer Kim Anderson, of The Chunk of Funk, says the event falls under the mandate of Minor Music and provides a performance opportunity for both up and coming and established local bands.

Plus, she adds, enjoying music is a great way to start a new year.

Anderson said, “This is an opportunity for musicians and the community to celebrate local music by rocking out the old year and rolling in the new – together.”

Tickets are available at Rodd Grand Hotel and at Doolys. Tickets are $3 for youth (under 19 must be accompanied by an adult) and $7 for adults.
