The Yarmouth Mariners scored three times in the first period against the Bridgewater Lumberjacks in Liverpool on Thursday, Nov. 15. But the Lumberjacks rallied to tie the score and ended up winning the game in overtime 4-3.

 

Jared Hicks (Zack Henry, Josh Desmond) opened the scoring at 1:43 to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Hicks (second goal of game, Henry, Jon Johannesson) scored at 5:47 to extend the lead to 2-0. Josh Desmond (shorthanded, Henry) scored at 13:55 to increase the lead to 3-0 after the first period.

The Lumberjack’s Shawn Boudreau scored at 1:22 to get the Lumberjacks on the scoreboard at 3-1 after the second period. In the third period Jared Dodman (powerplay) scored at 9:57 to cut the lead to 3-2. Jeremy Butterworth scored at 11:00 to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra time.

In overtime, Butterworth (game winner, second goal of game) scored at 1:07 for the win.

Bridgewater went 1 for 5 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 0 for 2.

Jordan Lee stopped 22 of 25 shots for the win while Travis Wilkins stopped 21 of 25 shots in the loss.

The Mariners still sit in second place in the Eastlink Division with 29 points, four points behind the division-leading Truro Bearcats. On Friday night the Mariners host the Metro Shipbuilders at the Mariners Centre.
