The Yarmouth Mariners defeated the Truro Bearcats 5-2 in Truro on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Zack Henry led the Mariners with two goals while Connor Donaghey and Morgan Messenger added one goal and one assist each.
Donaghey (Rodney Mahoney) opened the scoring at 8:03 to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Messenger (Colin Campbell, Derek Larade) scored at 12:16 to extend the lead to 2-0. Mike Richard scored at 14:12 to get the Bearcats on the scoreboard at 2-1 after the first period.
Jared Hicks (powerplay, game winner, Donaghey, Mahoney) scored at 9:56 to increase the lead to 3-1 after the second period. Henry (unassisted) scored at 4:21 in the third to widen the lead to 4-1. Adam Guy scored 53 seconds later at 5:14 to cut the lead in half at 4-2. Henry (second goal of game, Messenger) rounded out the scoring at 18:07.
Yarmouth went 1 for 2 on the powerplay while Truro went 0 for 4.
Travis Wilkins stopped 26 of 28 shots for the win while Shayne Campbell stopped 24 of 29 shots in the loss.
The Bearcats still sat in first place in the Eastlink Division after this game with 35 points to the Mariners' 33 points.
