Volunteers serve up freshly steamed lobster during last year’s VON Surf or Turf on the Yarmouth Waterfront. The event is part of the three day Yarmouth Seafood and Wine Extravaganza that starts Aug. 11 this year.
Committee organizers are welcoming local celebrity chefs, 13 local restaurants, five craft breweries, four wineries and three distilleries to Yarmouth’s “most grand cocktail party” on Sunday, Aug. 13.
The Seafood and Wine Extravaganza takes place at the Rodd Grand Hotel, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Yarmouth’s improv group - Catch 22 - will be master of ceremonies.
The excitement for this year’s event began building in January, with new restaurants opening in the area, new craft brewers and a new winery –Beavercreek, says Carole Hill-Bojarski, president of the society.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Chef Corey McLaughlin of Hatfield House to the lineup,” she said.
“He’ll be showing off his amazing talents in a “Chef Demo” during the event.
Shane Ward (Red Shed) and Jonathan Joseph (The Argyler) have collaborated on a new venture: The Keeper’s Kitchen. All three restaurants will be represented on Aug. 13.
La Tchuisuine recently opened their doors in Tusket and owner/operator Corey Clamp will be on hand to tempt everyone with a smoked fish creation.
The Extravaganza is one event of a three-day festival.
On Friday, August 11, the VON (Surf or Turf Dinner will be held in the Rudders tent on the Yarmouth waterfront, 5 - 8 p.m.
The dinner includes lobster or steak, salads, dessert and entertainment.
Organizer Derrick Babin says this is one of the biggest fundraisers for the area’s VON (Victorian Order of Nurses). Tickets can be purchased at the VON building on Starrs Road or by calling the VON office at 902-742-4512.
The Fabulous Fish Fiesta, sponsored by Atlantic Superstore, takes place Saturday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Yarmouth Waterfront. This year, 10 community organizations are participating, each preparing a special seafood dish. Items range from seafood casserole, BBQ shark, fish cakes, shrimp curry, steamed mussels, steamed clams, seafood chowder and more. In all, 10 different items will be served.
“This event is always very popular and there will be demonstrations of arts and crafts, music and much, much more fun and food to experience,” said Bojarski.
She referred to the event as an awesome fundraiser for community organizations.
