Yarmouth Hospital Foundation’s spring gala committee chair Linda Deveau says close to 150 tickets have already been reserved for the April 26 event.

Close to 150 tickets have been reserved for the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation’s spring gala on Saturday, April 26. This is the 10th anniversary for the event and to celebrate, the theme is the Sky’s the Limit.

“We’ve surpassed what advance sales normally are at this time, so that’s pleasing,” said spokesperson Linda Deveau.

Last year the signature fundraising event drew 330 guests (a sell out) to the Mariners Centre, a location it moved to three years ago.

Deveau says the community has embraced the dinner and dance format and appreciates the spacious surroundings that the larger venue provides.

The “elegance of movement” is a nice component to the evening, says Deveau.

“One of the things people compliment us on is the ability to move around and that there’s lots of room to see everything.”

The committee will be transforming the site to fit the occasion, from the coat check to hosts and lobby, corridor and main arena decorations.

Elements of aviation, from early days to astronauts, the space race, constellations and the solar system will be represented in the theme.

Traditional favourites are included in the evening’s itinerary, including the balloon blitz and diamond draw.

There will be a silent auction, new games, draw tables, a cocktail bar and entertainment by the Aviators from metro Halifax. The band used to play regularly at Peddler’s Pub in Halifax and performed in Yarmouth in 2009 at the Rodd Grand Hotel for the Nova Scotia Air Show.

Although the core spring gala committee only consists of six, when it comes time for the Mariner Centre rink transformation several shifts of volunteer teams swing into action.

Tickets are $150/plate and can be reserved by calling the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation office at 902-749-1669 or email Corporate tables can also be reserved. Those wishing to sponsor the event can also contact the Foundation. Full sponsorship packages are available until late March. The Yarmouth Dental Group is returning as the presenting sponsor.
