Yarmouth - For the second year in a row, photos of weird-looking lobsters are flooding the Facebook Page of a local auto dealership.
The pictures of the unusual crustaceans, mostly submitted by fishermen, are being entered in Murray GM’s Craziest Lobster Contest.
Marketing manager Billy Mole says he’s noticed there are quite a few photos of out-of-the-ordinary claws.
“Last year I noticed we were seeing a few that had some pretty funky claws with some extensions. This year I’m seeing a few with extra arms that have functioning pincers. It’s very interesting.”
Last year the contest reached nearly half a million viewers, with entries from Hawaii, Ecuador and a fish market in Tanzania.
“When we published the rules we definitely didn’t expect it to get that far so we didn’t put any rules as far as location goes,” said Mole, adding he’d like to see the winner be in LFA 33/34.
The contest started in late November and will end on Dec. 31. The posting with the most likes wins $250 cash. The winner will be announced in early January.
Last year’s winning entry was that of a rainbow-coloured lobster. The picture was sent in on behalf of Chad Graham. However, the crew of the Sudden Impact landed and snapped the photo of this lobster. Murray GM awarded both parties the prize and they each directed their half of the winnings to non-profit organizations: the Nova Scotia SPCA - Yarmouth Shelter and the Yarmouth Food Bank.
