A long-time volunteer in the Town of Yarmouth has been awarded a prestigious award in recognition of her time and effort.

Barb Rodney is the recipient of the Governor General Sovereigns Award for Volunteering.

Rodney was recognized for her decades of volunteering with the VON – where she was credited for expertly helping to steer the helm of the organization, as well as her stewardship of the VON. Rodney is also active when it comes to volunteering with other organizations.

Rodney received the award – which comes in the form of a medal – at the Oct. 12 Yarmouth town council meeting.

Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood said the community was fortunate to have a dedicated volunteer like Rodney in its midst.

The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields. As an official Canadian honour, the Medal for Volunteers incorporates and replaces the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award. The medal builds on the legacy and spirit of the Caring Canadian Award by honouring the dedication and commitment of volunteers.
