ANNAPOLIS COUNTY, N.S. – A collision on Highway 101 Wednesday evening has claimed the life of a Yarmouth County man.
At 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, the RCMP say the vehicle the man was driving crossed the centre line of the highway and struck another oncoming vehicle. The collision occurred near Exit 23A in Annapolis County (around the Cornwallis area). The RCMP say weather conditions were poor at the time.
There was freezing rain, snow and heaving rain in the forecast on the evening of Feb. 7.
The deceased is a 71-year-old man from Yarmouth. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released. He was accompanied by a female passenger, who sustained moderate but non-life threatening injuries, according to the RCMP. The two occupants of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries.
An RCMP Traffic Analyst was called to examine the scene for evidence. Highway 101 was closed near the collision scene for several hours, and was re-opened to traffic shortly after 1 a.m. on Feb. 8.
The matter remains under investigation.
