YARMOUTH - Patrons of Th’YARC on Parade Street will no longer have to cope with a parking lot full of dips, hills and gravel sections.

A new $100,000 paving job now provides visitors with a much smoother and safer experience.

Liability issues were a concern, says Th’YARC president Mitch Bonnar.

“It was a mess. It was dangerous,” he said.

“There was gravel in the front, people were tripping over it, catching their heels in it, wheelchairs couldn’t get through it and we had drainage issues.”

Some may view the considerable investment to signify permanence of the theatre at that location.

The Town of Yarmouth is pursuing a new community arts and culture facility in a downtown location. Th’YARC board has maintained steadily over the years its plans to build a new facility at its current location.

“Whether we rebuild there or someplace else is irrelevant,” said Bonnar.

“We would be there for a couple of years anyways. It needed to get done one way or another. It was basically a safety issue.”
