The Yarmouth Fire Department received the call around 5:30 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene for a half-hour or so, a department spokesman said.
The matter was being investigated by the RCMP, he said.
The vehicle was found on a section of the Yarmouth golf course close to Main Street in the town’s south end.
Lynn Doucette, manager of the Yarmouth Links golf club, said it happened between the 10th tee and ninth green “right off of Main Street. It looks like somebody just drove it in and – whatever, however – it got on fire.”
Contacted late Thursday morning, she said the vehicle had been removed and there didn’t seem to be much damage to the course, although she said it could be a while before she could give a more definitive assessment.
She said she hadn’t spoken to anyone who saw what happened and so she didn’t know how the vehicle ended up where it did or what caused it to catch fire.
