Update: Yarmouth Regional Hospital coping with flooding aftermath

YARMOUTH, N.S. – The safety of patients, staff, visitors and the public remains top priority as the cleanup continues following a Dec. 17 flood at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, says the Nova Scotia Health Authority in a media release..

"We continue to assess the damage and plan for drying, cleaning, repairing and remediation of affected areas," reads the release. "This work must be done safely and appropriately and will take time.
 
The health authority says public access to affected areas will continue to be restricted. People are asked to please avoid affected areas unless absolutely necessary.
 
"Volunteers are doing an outstanding job of greeting patients and directing people appropriately," the release reads. "Volunteers will continue to help direct patients with appointments in physician offices on the 2nd and 3rd floors on Tuesday, Dec. 20. (A list of affected physician offices is below.)

Patients with booked appointments will be contacted if the time or location of their appointment has changed.
 
Excavation equipment is being used at the front of the hospital to dig up and repair a damaged water line. The public is asked to be careful in this area. Please park only in designated parking spots and respect all no parking signs.
 
The kitchen is open, but cafeteria dining room remains closed.
