John Hines — Halifax

HINES, John Charles – age 52, Yarmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Infirmary Site of the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born July 14, 1966 in Yarmouth, he was a son of Dave and Shirley (Smith) Mersey of Kemptville. John was currently working as the captain of a scallop dragger for Yarmouth Sea Products. John was passionate about two things in his life – his family and the sea. He enjoyed working around the yard and cooking, but he will be mostly remembered as a man with a generous heart who was always ready to lend anyone a helping hand - values that were instilled in him by his mom and which he passed down to his own family. Aside from his parents, Dave and Shirley, he is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Usher) Hines, as well as by a daughter, Samantha Usher, Yarmouth; his sister, Lisa (Kevin) Deveau, Red Deer, AB; a step-brother, Garth (Beth) McCrea, New Brunswick and a special niece, Keilah. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Monday with prayers at 8:00 at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral Mass was held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 31 at St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Patrick O’Meara officiated. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Yarmouth Food Bank.
