Two cars were stolen from the south end of West Street in Digby last night, about one block apart, and RCMP recovered a third car also on West Street, that had been stolen in New Minas earlier in the evening.
“We’re assuming the cases are linked,” said Digby RCMP Corporal Tim MacDonald. “It looks like they stole a car in New Minas and then stole two in Digby.”
Greg Thomas noticed his father’s car was missing from the driveway on West Street about 7:15 a.m.
Neighbours told the RCMP that they heard a car squealing and driving away fast sometime after 1 a.m.
Rick Thomas’s car is a black 2006 or 2007 Pontiac Vibe with licence plate EJP 302.
His car was stolen once before, just last fall. That time they didn’t miss the car but noticed in the morning it had dents around the wheel well and to the front fender.
The front plate is still damaged from that incident and only small piece of the picture is left in the frame.
The keys were left in the car both times—last night it was a family member who had borrowed the car who left the keys in it.
The second car, a blue 2007 Toyota Corolla, was stolen just across from the old Tideview lot. It too was unlocked.
MacDonald says people need to lock their car doors.
“We want people be aware these thefts are happening and we’re asking people to be on the look out,” said MacDonald.
“And please call us right away if you see something suspicious,” he said. “It’s a lot easier to start looking as soon as it happens than to try to find them seven hours later.
