The Shelburne County Wilson’s Reds picked up two victories in four games last week in Bantam “AA” exhibition baseball action.  On July 31, the visiting Yarmouth Gateways dumped the host team 17-9, ending the Reds’ eleven game winning streak. A combination of strong Yarmouth hitting and a comedy of Shelburne County errors, led the way to fifteen Gateway runs in just three innings.  Trevor Fehr suffered the mound loss for the Reds, while Connor Goodick paced the offense with two singles.

The Reds bounced back with a 5-3 victory over the Gateways on August 3rd in Yarmouth.  Oliver Harding slammed a two-run homerun to lead the attack at the plate, with Dawson Atkinson, Tanner O’Connell and Parker Rowter adding two singles each.  Connor Bower picked up the win on the bump, with Riley Duggan earning the save.

The local squad then took to the highway on August 4, for a holiday tilt with the first place New Glasgow Thorne Burners of the N.S. Bluenose Baseball League.  The strong bats of New Glasgow proved to be too much in game one of the doubleheader, as the hosts picked up a convincing 9-4 victory over the Reds.  Connor Goodick took the mound loss for the visitors.  At the plate Tanner O’Connell cracked a double and two singles, with Oliver Harding adding a double and a single.

The Reds dumped the Thorne Burners 10-5 in game two to earn a split of the road trip.  Winning pitcher Andy Bradley racked up seven strikeouts in five innings, while slamming three homeruns and a sacrifice fly for 6 RBI at the plate.  Oliver Harding belted a double and single, with Tanner Bateman adding two singles.

The Reds now have a 22-5 season record.  The Reds will face the Clark’s Harbour Midget “A” Foggies in their next contest on August 14, 6:15pm at the Sherose Island Field.
