Yarmouth Vikings have 6-5 OT hockey win over Forest Heights Falcons

CHESTER - The Yarmouth Vikings high school varsity hockey team had a big 6-5 overtime victory over the Forest Heights Falcons in Chester on Nov. 7.

The Vikings were the first to score but Forest Heights tied things up and were leading 3-1 after the second period.

With both teams getting penalties, the special teams and penalty kills took on heightened importance in this game.

Yarmouth found itself trailing 5-3 with five minutes remaining in the game. After coming within one, and then having a 5-on-3 advantage in the final minute of the game, the Vikings pulled their goalie, scoring the tying goal with 31 seconds left. The tie goal was one of four goals the Vikings  scored in the third period.

The Vikings took the 6-5 victory in overtime.

For Forest Heights, this was their first league loss ever playing in the Valley High School Hockey League. Going into the game the Falcons had a 5-0 record this season. They still sat atop the 13-team league even with the loss.

With the win – their third in a row – the Vikings had a 3-3 season record.

On Saturday evening, Nov. 8, the Vikings host Avon View at 8 p.m. at the Mariners Centre.
