Results: Yarmouth County minor hockey teams involved in provincial playdowns and league playoffs

YARMOUTH, N.S. – Many local hockey teams have been taking part in provincial playdowns and league playoffs. Here are some recent result supplied to the Tri-County Vanguard.

Peewee A Riptide playoffs continue

The Yarmouth Scotiabank Western Riptide White Peewee A girls played their 3rd and 4th playoff games this past weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Riptides hosted the Metro West Force White defeating the Metro team 3-0. Scoring were Katie Atkinson, Madison Cushing and Courtney Fitzgerald. Assists were from Carly Kini, Isabelle d’Entremont, Breanne Deveau, Ocean Sears and Chloe Surette.

Chloe Surette was in net for the shutout.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, the Riptides traveled to Halifax to play the Metro West Force Blue, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Scoring was Havannah Perry unassisted. Chloe Surette was in net.

The Riptides’ next games are Saturday, March 3 at home versus the Riptides from Lunenburg and then in Halifax on Sunday, March 4, versus the Metro East Inferno Gold.

The Yarmouth Scotiabank Western Riptide White Peewee A girls had started their playoffs the previous weekend with two wins. The Riptides played a home game on Feb. 17 versus the Metro West Force Red team from Halifax, winning 4-2. Isabelle d'Entremont had a hat-trick and one assist. Carly Kini had one goal and ‎three assists. Courtney Fitzgerald had two assist and France Boudreau with one assist. Chloe Sure was in net.

Their second game was an away game in Halifax versus the Metro East Inferno Red team. The Riptides‎ won that game 4-0. Scoring was Sydnee Lloyd and Madison Cushing each with one goal and an assist. Ocean Sears and Isabelle d'Entremont each had one goal. Assist from Marissa Fevens, France Boudreau and Carly Kini. Chloe Surette earned the shutout.

Peewee B team in playdowns

The Timbermart Peewee B Mariners took Game 1 in a best-of-three provincial playdown series against the West Hants Warriors, with a nail biter 2-1 win, on Feb. 17. The Timbermart Mariners scored in the 1st period with Dominic Jacquard putting them on the board with assists from Landon Watkins and AJ Deveau. The second period was end-to-end rushes with no score.

After the 2nd period break the Mariners came out with another goal within the first five minutes of the period. Scoring was Lucas Cottreau with an assist from Landon Watkins. They held off the West Hants Warriors after the visitors scored with six minutes left in the 3rd to win the game.

Game 2 was Feb. 24 in West Hants. The result of that game was unavailable at our press deadline.

Atom AA win first playdown series

The Hubert’s Towing Atom AA Mariners played provincial playdown games 2 and 3 of their best-of-three-game series versus West Hants. Game two was played Feb. 17, where the Mariners lost to West Hants 5-3. Ashton Samms had one goal, unassisted, Connor Stoddard had one unassisted goal and one goal assisted by Miguel Surette and Ashton Samms.

Patrick Peters was in net for game 2.

Yarmouth eliminated West Hants on Sunday with a 4-0 shut out. Ashton Samms had a hat-trick and Connor Pothier had one goal. Assists went to Connor Stoddard (2), Dawson O’Connell (2), Drew Muise (1), Miguel Surette (1), and Jaxon Churchill (1). Noah Muise was in net.

With the series win the Mariners moved onto the second round of provincial playdowns.

Bantam A Mariners lose provincial playdown series

The West Pubnico Pharmasave Bantam A Mariners lost the final game of a three-game provincial playdown series to West Hants 3-1. Scoring for Yarmouth was Jaden Kerr. Assists went to Ben LeBlanc and Connor Prouty. In nets was Austin Surette.

The Mariners had lost the first game of the series on Saturday, Feb 17, 8-0 in Windsor and had won the second game of the series 2-1 in Yarmouth on Sunday, Feb. 18. Scoring in that game had been Lucas d’Entremont and Ethan Saulnier with unassisted goals. In nets was Austin Surette.

The next game for the West Pubnico Pharmasave Bantam A Mariners is March 3 against West Hants for a one-game league playoff game.
