Maple Grove wins girls soccer districts

The Maple Grove girls soccer team is heading to regionals after having won districts 2-1 over Ecole Par-en-Bas (PEB) in overtime during the Oct. 23 championship game.

Ashley Higby scored the winning goal in overtime.

Maple Grove, which had finished in first place during the regular season, advanced to the championship game after defeating Shelburne 2-0 during a game that morning.

PEB advanced to the championship game after defeating Barrington 3-1 earlier in the day.

The first half of the championship game remained scoreless between the two teams. Early into the second half Arielle Doucet scored for PEB, which remained in the lead until about six minutes from the end of the game when Maple Grove’s Lindsey Minard scored a goal to tie the game 1-1.

 Maple Grove is a Grade 7 and 8 school that competes against schools that have Grades 7, 8 and 9 players on their teams. 

Maple Grove will travel to regionals on Oct. 31.

The coaches of the team are Craig Minard, Tyson Churchill and Hannah Churchill. The team roster includes Mary Beth Brown, Lauren Goudey, Sophie Surette, Kaitlyn Mooney, Sophie Atkinson, Andrea Oguntade, Laura Legere, Anastacia Cook, Rileigh Mosely,

Sydney Barr, Caileigh White, Olivia Eyre, Julie Philips, Jalissa Fells, Lindsey Minard, Sarah Davis, Ashley Higby, goalie Hallie Moore, Olivia Hartley and Kaia Lowe.
